ABOUT_THE_ARTIST

Josseline Melgar is a mixed-media artist who uses found objects (e.g., stainless steel spheres, rhinestones, fabric, hair) and geometric forms alongside printed digital graphics to create sculptures that interrogate the intersection of comfort, fear, and absurdity. This assembled and printed body of work fluctuates between the literal and abstract in order to further a visual narrative that struggles with its own hyperreality.

Melgar’s artistic practice is informed by her lived experiences as a first-generation American, the post/minimalist art movement and graphic design. Her goal as an artist is to encourage visual and mental analysis— not only of the object and the space it inhabits but also of the viewer’s own praxis and how they interact with the systems they exist in.

Josseline Melgar earned a Bachelors of Fine Art in sculpture from the University of South Florida in 2023 and has shown in group exhibitions at Heiress Gallery in St. Petersburg and REVERB Gallery in Tampa.
